The Path to Prosperity: Villager Tiers & Needs

The Path to Prosperity: Villager Tiers & Needs

In Colossus, each villager begins their journey as a Level 1 Settler—a poor nomad in search of a home. As their basic needs are met, they begin to grow families, advance socially, and gain new rights within the village. Children and adults share many needs, though some (like tools) apply only to adults.

Villager needs are cumulative—a Level 2 Citizen still requires all the needs of a Settler, plus additional demands. Below is a structured overview of the different villager levels and their evolving needs.

Level 1 – Settlers

Poor nomads focused on basic survival.

Need Applies to
Food Adults & Children
Water Adults & Children
Housing Adults & Children
Firewood Adults only

Level 2 – Citizens

Having secured their survival, citizens seek comfort and quality of life.

Need Applies to
Food Variety (2 types) Adults & Children
Leather (Clothing) Adults & Children
Tools Adults only

📌 Note: “Leather” is currently a placeholder for a more detailed clothing system.

Level 3 – Merchants

The most prosperous villagers with cultural, social, and political aspirations.

Planned Need Applies to
Food Variety (3 types) Adults & Children
Entertainment (e.g. parks, theaters) Adults & Children
Religion (e.g. churches, chapels) Adults & Children

🏰Rights & Social Progression

As villagers advance, they gain rights and responsibilities within the community:

  • Citizens may build workshops and contribute to local industry.
  • Merchants can participate in political roles or town leadership.

🛠 Profession Progression (Independent)

Villagers also evolve professionally, separate from their social level:

  • Improve efficiency and learn new skills.
  • Gain access to advanced buildings or leadership roles (e.g. Workshop Leader).
  • Professional growth depends on experience and workplace performance.

📢 Coming Soon: We’re working on a dedicated post exploring the Profession Progression System—how villagers grow in their careers, unlock new roles, and specialize over time. Stay tuned!

🔮Development Notes

Please note this system is under active development. Upcoming features may include:

  • A dynamic clothing system
  • Voting systems and councils
  • Education mechanics for children
  • Deeper well-being and personal fulfillment layers

Feedback and ideas are always welcome as we refine the living world of Colossus.
