Exploring the Economy in Colossus

Exploring the Economy in Colossus

In Colossus, the foundation of our gameplay revolves around a dynamic economy system. Today, let’s dive into the first iteration of our buildings and production lines, highlighting how they bring the world of Colossus to life.

Current Building Categories
Our initial build includes four distinct types of buildings:

1. Food Production

  • Forager Hut
  • Hunter’s Hut

2. Resource Extraction

  • Iron Mine
  • Stone Mine
  • Lumberjack Camp

3. Resource Processing

  • Wood Chipper Shed
  • Blacksmith

4. Village Infrastructure (not covered in this post)

  • House
  • Well

Workplace Mechanics

A key mechanic in Colossus is the workplace system. Eligible villagers (aged 14 and older) actively seek jobs from the available job listings. Once hired, they head to their assigned workplace each morning, working until the afternoon to produce resources. These resources are automatically added to the shared inventory pool, fueling the economy.

Production Lines

With our First Playable Version (FPV), each workplace now has the ability to:

  • Produce a primary resource
  • Consume imported resources as part of the production process
  • Output multiple resources, like the Hunter’s Hut, which produces both meat and leather.
Production Lines Colossus FPV

For example, the Blacksmith introduces a more complex production line. It requires two imported materials to forge tools. These tools are crucial for constructing new buildings, like the Hunter’s Hut, or upgrading villager homes.

Blacksmith Production Line

This layered approach to production lays the groundwork for a dynamic, interconnected economy. Stay tuned as we expand on these systems in future updates!
